Multi-Press Use Cases and Automation Guide

This article explains how Multi-Press Works, and how to set a multi-press automation from a Lightwave Dimmer (LP21,LP22,LP23,LP24) up on the Lightwave App

The Multi-Press feature enables users to trigger powerful, customised automations using multiple presses on a Lightwave device button.

Supported Button Events

Multi-Press recognises the following press types:

  • Single Press

  • Multi-Press

  • Long Press

  • Release

These events can be assigned to either the top (ON) or bottom (OFF) button of Lightwave dimmers and sockets.

Capabilities of Multi-Press

  • Create up to 24 press-based triggers for each button (ON/OFF), giving you a total of 48 potential automations per device.

  • Combine these triggers with any actionable automation in your system.

Examples:

  • 3 Presses: Boost your Lightwave heating.

  • 5 Presses: Activate a whole-home “Kill Switch” to turn everything off.

  • 1 Press: Still retains the default function to turn on the wired light.

  • 2 Presses: Always sets the connected lighting circuit to 100% brightness (non-customisable).

How to Set Up a Multi-Press Automation

  1. Open the Lightwave App

  2. Navigate to the Settings of the device you want to configure.

  3. Tap on Multi-Press from the settings list.

  4. Choose the button to customise (e.g., Custom Up Button).

  5. Select Add Automation.

  6. Tap on Single Press to change the press type and select Multi-Press.

  7. Adjust the number of presses (up to 24).

  8. Tap Add Action to choose the devices you want to control.

  9. Browse through your rooms and select relevant devices.

  10. Set device-specific actions such as:

    • On/Off toggle

    • Brightness levels

    • Time delays

  11. Tap Done in the top-right corner.

  12. Name your automation and tap Save.

You can repeat these steps to configure additional custom automations for both UP and DOWN buttons.

Note: The default behaviours (Single Press = On, Double Press = 100% Brightness) on all Lightwave dimmers are fixed and cannot be overridden unless the buttons are demapped or the particular channel is not wired to a lighting circuit and being used as a magic button instead.,
