What to do if my Dimmer keeps flashing Green/White? (Calibrating)

This article provides guidance on how to troubleshoot and resolve an issue where your Lightwave Smart Series Dimmer — specifically models LP21, LP22, LP23, or LP24 — is flashing green for an extended period of time.

If your Lightwave Smart Series dimmer is flashing green and white, it’s in calibration mode—a normal process designed to optimize dimming performance based on the connected bulbs and load.

🔍 What is Calibration Mode?

Calibration mode helps your dimmer automatically detect the best dimming range for your setup. This improves compatibility and eliminates flickering or instability.

🛠️ Stuck in a Calibration Loop? Try These Steps

1. Power Cycle the Dimmer

🔌 Switch the Lightwave Dimmer off for 5 seconds from your Consumer Unit, then turn it back on. This resets the calibration process.

2. Double-Check Wiring

🔧 Ensure Live (L) and Switched Live (X) wires are in the correct terminals.
🔵 If a neutral wire is available, connect it to the N Terminal for improved stability.

3. Use Compatible Dimmable Bulbs

💡 Only use Dimmable bulbs which are compatible for use with Lightwave dimmers. We have Compatible ones that we have tested with our dimmers on our online store: See recommended bulbs

4. Stay Within Load Limits

⚖️ Confirm that your setup meets the minimum and maximum load requirements.

Maximum load requirements:

  • LED Lighting: Up to 100W total per dimmer gang

    Minimum load requirements:
Configuration Minimum Load
Without Neutral Wire 10W
With Neutral Wire 5W

⚠️ Tip: These apply to LED bulbs. Operating below these minimums may cause calibration issues or dimmer instability.

5. Correct 2-Way or Multiway Configuration

🔁 Ensure your dimmer is properly set up in any 2-way or multiway circuit, with the correct automation and pairing settings. More on multiway setup

6. Eliminate Flickering with Manual Calibration

🌙 If lights flicker at very low or high brightness, perform a manual calibration to fine-tune the dimming range. Learn how to calibrate manually

⚙️ Additional Best Practices

✅ Set Master & Slave Correctly

  • In multi-gang or multiway setups, make sure your dimmer is assigned the correct Master or Slave role.

🔌 Load Configuration for Each Gang

  • Attach compatible loads to all gangs.

  • Always connect a load to the primary gang (first channel), and preferably assign the highest load to it.
