What type of LED Bulbs can I use with my Lightwave Dimmers?

This article explains which LED bulbs are compatible and incompatible with Lightwave Smart Dimmers LP21,LP22,LP23,LP24

LED lighting is an energy-efficient and increasingly popular choice for modern homes. Lightwave dimmers are engineered to work effectively with the latest dimmable LED lamps—but as not all LEDs are created equal, understanding bulb compatibility is essential for achieving smooth, flicker-free dimming.

Recommended Bulbs

To ensure optimal performance:

These bulbs have been verified for smooth dimming, reliable response, and minimal flicker.

Buying Other Bulbs? Follow These Guidelines:

  • Check for the dimmable symbol on the packaging.

  • For dimmers without a neutral wire: Minimum 10W per channel recommended.

  • For dimmers with a neutral wire: Minimum 5W per channel recommended.

  • LED bulbs must be mains-dimmable 230-240V (12V, 0-10V & DALI are incompatible and require a Lightwave relay to be operated)

  • For best performance, use up to 15 bulbs per gang. While more may work, smooth operation and stability cannot be guaranteed.

Stick to reputable brands to avoid flickering, pulsing, or calibration issues caused by poor internal components.

Recommended Bulb Fittings

GU10

Common in spotlights and downlights. Features two short pins at the base and is suitable for focused lighting.

B22 (Bayonet Cap)

Twist-and-lock socket, widely used in the UK. Reliable for general household lighting.

E27 (Edison Screw)

Standard screw fitting. Used globally for a wide range of bulb types including LED, incandescent, and CFL.

E14 (Small Edison Screw/SES)

Integrated LED Downlights

Fixed LED units offering long-lasting, energy-efficient illumination. Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and hallways.

Bulbs Not Suitable for Use with Lightwave Dimmers

Some lighting types should not be connected directly to dimmers due to power or driver limitations. Instead, connect them to Lightwave relays and control wirelessly.

Not Recommended:

  • Gas filament tubes (Cannot be dimmed and are not TRIAC Dimmable)

  • MR16 bulbs (use 12V drivers, which are incompatible with Lightwave dimmers; a Smart Relay is required LP81, LP82, LP83)

  • DALI (Is not compatible with our dimmers due to using a different dimming interface can work with Smart Relays LP81, LP82, LP83)
  • 0-10V Light Fixtures (Incompatible due to different dimming interface, commonly found in integrated wall & ceiling lights, can work with Smart Relays LP81, LP82, LP83)
  • Non-Dimmable Bulbs & Smart Bulbs (Will work if a Neutral is connected to your Lightwave dimmer when set up in discreet on/off mode if no neutral is preset, they can work with Smart Relays LP81, LP82, LP83)
