What to do if a device is linked to the Lightwave app, but is not switching the light?

This guide explains what to check if your Lightwave device is linked in the app but isn’t physically switching the light, including common causes and troubleshooting steps.

🔧 Common Causes and Fixes

If your device appears linked in the app but isn’t physically switching the light, one of the following issues may be the cause:

1. Ghost Devices 👻

This can happen if the wrong pairing option was selected during setup.

If you chose “Link a Connect Series device”, the hub will send a signal, but Connect Series devices do not provide confirmation back to the hub. This can make it appear as though the device has paired successfully when it hasn’t, as the Link Plus will add the device to the app anyway.

You may also be trying to pair a device using the wrong method.

Check your device type:

  • Connect Series devices start with JSJSLW
  • Smart Series devices start with LP or L

If your device is Smart Series, make sure you follow the correct pairing process within the app.

2. Accidental Memory Clear 🔄

In some cases, the device memory may have been cleared by accident.

Common signs include:

  • “Unpaired” message in the app
  • “Error Sending Command” when trying to control the device

What to check:

  • Put the device into pairing mode
    • If it goes straight into red and blue flashing, it has been reset → delete it from the app and re-pair
    • If it flashes red only the memory is full, do not delete it—this usually indicates a signal/range issue

In this case, check the distance between the device and the Link Plus hub.

3. Socket Paired Using Both Buttons 🔌

If a socket has been paired using both buttons, it may initially appear connected but will not function correctly.

In this scenario:

  • The hub can detect the device
  • The device briefly responds
  • Then it disconnects immediately

This can also prevent firmware updates from completing.

Solution:
Master Reset the socket and pair it again using the correct method.

💡 Tip

If you're unsure which issue applies, try re-entering pairing mode and observing the LED behaviour—this is often the quickest way to diagnose the problem.
