How to Set Up Lightwave with Home Assistant?

This article outlines how to set up Lightwave with Home Assistant using the built-in integration. It covers the simple process of connecting your Lightwave account, enabling device discovery, and managing your smart home devices directly within Home Assistant.

Lightwave can be integrated into Home Assistant using a custom component called Lightwave Smart, allowing you to control your Smart Series and Connect Series devices directly from your Home Assistant dashboard.

Warning: This integration is community-driven, relying on contributions for ongoing development, enhancements, and documentation support.

🧩 What You’ll Need

  1. A Lightwave Link Plus hub (L2)

  2. A Home Assistant installation (local or cloud)

  3. The HACS (Home Assistant Community Store) installed

  4. Your Lightwave account credentials

🔧 Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Step 1: Install HACS (if not already set up)

HACS is the easiest way to manage custom integrations.

  1. Go to Settings > Add-ons in Home Assistant.

  2. Follow the official HACS install guide to add it.

  3. Once installed, restart Home Assistant.

Step 2: Add the Lightwave Smart Integration

  1. Go to HACS > Integrations.

  2. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) > Custom repositories.

  3. Enter the following repo URL:

    https://github.com/LightwaveSmartHome/homeassistant-lightwave-smart
    • Set category to: Integration

  4. Click Add, then search for Lightwave Smart under available integrations.

  5. Click Download, then restart Home Assistant when prompted.

Note: A restart of Home Assistant is required after downloading the integration.

💡 The Lightwave Smart integration supports both Smart Series and Connect Series devices. It does not work with the original Link (LW930 & LW500) hub.

Step 3: Add the Integration to Home Assistant

  1. Go to Settings > Devices & Services.

  2. Click Add Integration.

  3. Search for Lightwave and select Lightwave Smart custom component.

  4. Log in with your Lightwave account credentials when prompted.

  5. You’ll see a confirmation window listing all discovered devices like switches, sockets, and dimmers. Assign each device to its appropriate area and click Finish.

✅ Your Lightwave Devices Are Now Live!

You can now:

  • Toggle Lightwave devices from the dashboard

  • Automate them with other Home Assistant devices

  • View and organize entities from the Devices and Entities tabs

🔁 Need to Update or Repair?

  • To update the integration, return to HACS > Integrations and re-download the latest version.

  • If prompted for a restart, do so via Settings > System > Restart.

  • For troubleshooting, visit Developer Tools > Logs.

🧠 Tips for Success

  • Name your devices clearly in the Lightwave app — this helps with Home Assistant recognition.

  • If you encounter entity issues, re-run the setup or delete and re-add the integration.
