The "Call for Heat" feature is an innovative automation designed to enhance your smart home heating experience. This function allows you to program your smart radiator valves or wireless thermostats to control your Lightwave heating system, which can typically be connected either to our smart heating switch (LP92) or our relays.
Here's how it works:
1. Set up your smart radiator valves and wireless thermostats as "Callers." These devices request heat when needed.
2. Configure the smart heating switch or relay as the "Provider," which supplies the heat.
In the Lightwave application, you can have multiple "Callers" communicating with a single "Provider." When a "Caller" detects that a room is cold and needs heat, it sends a wireless command to the "Provider" to activate the heating.
This setup enables intelligent zonal control throughout your property. You can set individual temperatures for different rooms, and the Lightwave heating system will adjust automatically, turning on and off as needed to maintain the set temperatures for each room/zone. This ensures that your heating preferences are met efficiently and effectively, providing optimal comfort and energy management.
Before setting up "CALL FOR HEAT" you must do the following:
To optimise the efficiency of your Lightwave heating system, it is crucial to set up a Schedule automation for each of your "Callers" (smart radiator valves or wireless thermostats) and ensure that no automations are configured on devices that are physically hardwired into your heating system, such as the smart heating switch or the relay.
These hardwired devices, designated as the "Provider,"
1. MUST be set to Manual mode (LP92) or ON and OFF mode if it's a relay and
2. Providers must not have their own schedules because their function is to respond to commands from the "Callers." The purpose of removing any direct automations from the Provider is to centralise control through the Callers. This ensures that the Provider reacts solely based on the Callers' requests, facilitating seamless and centralised control over your heating system.
By following this setup, the Smart heating switch or relay will simply execute the instructions received from each Caller, according to the individual needs of different zones/rooms in your property. This approach not only simplifies the overall management of your heating system but also enhances its responsiveness and efficiency.
Your now ready to set up Call for Heat
APP SET UP
Step 1. Within the Lightwave app, create a new Automation and choose the "Call for Heat" option.
Step 2 . CALLERS PAGE - Choose the wireless radiator valves or thermostats that you want to control your Lightwave heating system and tap "NEXT"
Step 3. PROVIDERS PAGE - Choose either a Smart heating switch (LP92) or a Relay and tap "NEXT"
Step 4. SUMMARY PAGE - Please give your automation a name at the top of the page and then tap "Done" to save the automation
Example of the summary page below which outlines which caller and provider you have selected:
The automation has now been set
Here is a list of devices that are compatible for use in the Call for Heat automation:
CALLERS: (NEED HEAT)
HR91 - Honeywell smart radiator valve
HR92 - Honeywell smart radiator valve
DT3R - Honeywell thermostat
T87RF - Honeywell Thermostat
LW922 - Lightwave smart radiator valve (connect series range)
LW921 - Lightwave wireless Thermostat (connect series range)
PROVIDERS (SUPPLY HEAT)
LP92 - Smart Heating Switch
L82 or L83 – Lightwave Relays (attached to boilers/electric heaters/towel rails/underfloor heating)
L42 – Lightwave Plug socket (electric heater could be plugged into it)
LP41 - Lightwave Plug-In socket (electric heater could be plugged into it)
LW934 - Lightwave Electric Switch (connect series range)
Examples of how some of the above devices can be used in the "call for heat" automation
- A Lightwave or Honeywell wireless thermostat can be set up as a “Caller” and the provider could be a smart heating switch or relay connected to a boiler or electric heater.
- The wireless thermostats can also be set up callers to turn on our smart plug sockets with an electric space heater plugged into it (as a provider)
- You can also use call for heat to set up electric under floor heating.
Each underfloor heating zone can be connected to our relays (providers), while a wireless thermostat can be placed in each room/zone to act as callers. The wireless thermostat (caller) communicates the temperature to the app and triggers the relay (provider) to turn on or off as needed.
