How to check if there is a neutral connected to your dimmer?

This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to verify whether a neutral wire is connected to your Lightwave Smart Dimmer using the Lightwave app. Knowing the neutral status is important for proper calibration, compatibility with certain lighting types, and optimal dimmer performance.

Lightwave Smart Dimmers can operate with or without a neutral wire, but knowing whether a neutral is connected can help with performance troubleshooting or when you're using non dimmable lights & smart bulbs

You can check this directly in the Lightwave App by following these steps:

Steps to check neutral connection:

  1. Open the Lightwave App

  2. Navigate to the Rooms tab

  3. Locate the primary channel of the device you want to check within the appropriate room

  4. Press and hold the device tile, then tap the Settings icon in the top right corner

  5. Scroll down and select Calibration

  6. Look for the “Neutral Connected” field (This is only visible on the primary channel of the dimmer)

    • If it's Green, a neutral is connected

    • If it's Grey, the dimmer is operating without a neutral
