FAQs

Here, we have compiled a comprehensive guide to address the most commonly asked questions.

Whether you're setting up your first smart switch or expanding your Lightwave system, this FAQ answers the most common questions about compatibility, installation, performance, and features.

🔧 Installation & Wiring

What size back box do I need?

  • UK Dimmers: Require a 35mm back box for flush fitting.

  • EU Dimmers: Require a 50mm back box.

All Lightwave devices include a spacer that provides an extra 7–10mm of clearance if needed.

Do I need additional wiring?

No. Lightwave devices are designed to work with standard UK wiring.

Do I need a neutral wire?

A neutral wire is not required, but if available, it enables additional functionality like supporting non-dimmable bulbs. If you’re rewiring your home, we strongly recommend including a neutral wire at switching points for future flexibility.

💡 Bulb Compatibility

Do I need dimmable bulbs?

Yes, we recommend dimmable LED bulbs with Smart Dimmers. If using a neutral wire, non-dimmable bulbs will work in the majority of cases.

Will my bulb work with Lightwave?

Due to bulb variability in the market, we cannot guarantee 100% compatibility. However, our Smart Calibration feature automatically adapts to different bulbs for better performance.

Is there a minimum and maximum load requirement?

  • Minimum Load: 10W of LED per channel

  • Maximum Load: 100W of LED per channel

Requirements may vary for specific types like LED strip lighting.

📶 Device Range & Connectivity

What is the range of Lightwave devices?

Lightwave uses a low-frequency radio protocol for superior range:

  • Up to 1km in open-field testing

  • Around 100m inside typical homes

To maximise range, install the hub in a high, central location. Keep away from metal surfaces and large water tanks.

Do I need a hub?

Yes, the Link Plus hub is required for:

  • Smart app control

  • Voice assistants (e.g. Alexa, Google)

  • Timers & automations

Even without an internet connection, your schedules will still run as long as the hub remains powered.

How many devices can I pair to one hub?

There is no limit to the number of devices you can pair with a single Lightwave hub.

💡 Smart Lighting Features

Can I use Lightwave for multi-way switching?

Yes. Lightwave supports multi-way switching. All 1, 2, 3, and 4-gang smart dimmers can be configured as part of a multi-way circuit through the app. (All switch points in the 2-way/multi-way setup must be Lightwave dimmers)
