FAQs

Here, we have compiled a comprehensive guide to address the most commonly asked questions.

What size back box do I need?

For UK dimmers, a 35mm back box is needed for a flush fitting. For EU dimmers, a 50mm back box is needed. All devices come with a spacer which provides an additional 7-10mm of clearance

Do I need a dimmable bulbs?

We recommend using Dimmable LEDs for our Smart Dimmers to work. If you have a neutral wire or use a relay, you may be able to operate non-dimmable bulbs in certain circumstances. Please refer to this articles for detailed guidance: Controlling Non-Dimmable Lighting

Will my bulb work?

Given the diverse nature of the lighting market, it is important to note that we are unable to guarantee compatibility with every bulb. However, Lightwave dimmers are equipped with Smart Calibration technology, which automatically adjusts to meet the specific requirements of different bulbs. This feature significantly increases the chances of the dimmer functioning properly. For further guidance on maximising compatibility, please refer to the following article Controlling Dimmable Lighting

What is the range of your dimmers?

Lightwave devices use a low radio frequency band which enables them to achieve best-in-market range performance, this significantly outperforms widely used protocols such as ZigBee, WiFi and Bluetooth. In an open field setting, we have completed successful tests of up to 1km. In a typical household environment, this translates to approximately 100m of range. To optimise the range of your LightwaveRF devices, we recommend installing the hub in a high and central location within your property. It's worth mentioning that elements like expansive water bodies, metallic surfaces, and specific materials can occasionally affect the device's range.

What warranty do the devices come with?

All of our devices come with a 2 year warranty. This can be extended to life time warranty if you take out the lightwave plus membership.

Can I use Lightwave for multiway switching?

Yes, Lightwave provides support for multi-way switching, Lightwave allows you to connect as many devices as you need on a single circuit. We only sell 4 dimmers (1,2,3,& 4gang dimmers) that are smart and they can be programmed in the app to be multiway dimmers.

Do I need additional wiring?

All of our devices use standard UK wiring

Do I need a hub?

The hub is required for smart control, voice control, and app control. Additionally, any timers and automations rely on the hub. Even if the internet connection drops in your property, the timers and automations will continue to function as long as the link hub remains connected and powered.

How many devices can I pair to one hub?

There is no limit to the number of devices you can pair with a single hub. Feel free to connect as many devices as you need for your smart home setup.

Do I need a neutral wire?

The presence of a neutral wire is not mandatory, as our dimmers can still function without it. However, if you do have a neutral wire, you will also have the option to use non-dimmable lights. Therefore, if you are rewiring your property, we highly recommend installing a neutral wire at the switching points as it will provide more flexibility in your lighting options.

Is there a minimum and maximum load requirement?

Typically, the minimum load requirement is 10w of LED per channel, while the maximum load requirement is 100w of LED per channel. However, it's important to note that these requirements may vary depending on the type of lighting, such as LED strip lights. For more detailed information, we recommend referring to our article on Controlling Dimmable Lighting
