Can I control underfloor heating?
This article explains how to set up and control different types of underfloor heating systems using Lightwave devices, including Wireless Thermostats, Smart Heating Switches, and TRVs.
For Electric Underfloor Heating zones, you can achieve smart, zoned temperature control using the following setup:
-
Install a Smart Heating Switch (LP92) in each heating zone to control the Underfloor Heating Element
-
Place a Smart Wireless Thermostat (Honeywell DT3) in each corresponding zone.
-
Use the Lightwave app to set up 'Call for Heat' automation, linking each thermostat to its relay.
This setup allows each thermostat to control its zone independently, providing precise and efficient heating management.
🚿 Controlling Actuator Valves for Wet Underfloor Systems
For Wet Underfloor Heating systems.
-
If the system uses an electrical current to switch a motorised valve, the Smart Heating Switch (LP92) is a match made in heaven. You can also use the 3-Gang Relay (LP83), which can be more cost-effective if you are controlling multiple zone valves in the same location.
-
Wire it directly to the motorised valve.
-
It can function as the temperature sensor itself or work with a Home Thermostat.

💧 Electric vs Wet Underfloor Heating – What You’ll Need
-
Wet Underfloor Heating (Hot Water):
➤ Use a Lightwave Smart Heating Switch (LP92) or 3-Gang Relay (LP83) to control individual zones. -
Electric Underfloor Heating:
➤ Use a Lightwave Smart Heating Switch (LP92) for reliable zone control.
Each system and home setup is unique, so consult with your installer or Lightwave Support for tailored configuration guidance.
